Fifty Readings in Philosophyis designed for an introductory course in philosophy that uses primary texts. The readings are from classical Western philosophers, contemporary authors writing in that tradition, and feminist authors. These readings were selected on the basis of their cogency of thought, clarity of expression, historical significance, diversity of views, and accessibility. They are organized into seven thematic chapters: the nature of philosophy; philosophy of religion; theories of knowledge; philosophy of mind; free will and determinism; ethics; and political and social philosophy.
